The Harimaya Bridge was filmed over five weeks in Kochi Prefecture, Japan and one week in California, U.S.A.

The Japanese leg of the production was done with a Japanese crew. Filming in Kochi Prefecture was done in the municipalities of Sakawa, Susaki, Nakatosa, Ino, Nankoku, and Kochi City.

The U.S. part of the production was done with an American crew. Filming was done primarily in San Francisco, with some pick-up shots done across the bay in Berkeley.

The Harimaya Bridge opened in movie theaters in Japan in the summer of 2009, first in Kochi Prefecture on June 6th, then nationwide on June 13th.

In the fall of 2009 the film began playing in film festivals. It has been shown in:
